Interesting, that 162 seems weird considering the GPS just jumped to it, so could've just been a glitch? At 162 your speedo should've been reading over 170. And on the m2 that might very well be the case that they didn't electronically limit it and it just tops out at those speeds naturally which I doubt but still interesting nonetheless.

From the sound of it there's no need, in fact you might want to use the the LIM button to limit your speed, don't wanna be reckless or anything, keep it under 60.

And? The chiron is literally made for that, whether you choose to take advantage of a cars performance or drive it like a camry is all up to you, the user. I've taken an e55 amg close to 215, that was terrifying because the car isn't made for that, over 190 it starts vibrating like it's falling apart, expected of a 20 year old car. They could've limited the chiron to 225 or 190 or 155, but they didn't because they have the confidence the car can handle perfectly fine at speeds of over 260 mph.

But that’s not how it works on public roads. The reason for laws, speed limits, etc., is for the stuff you can’t plan for. I could easily go 160mph on most public roads, but if a deer comes out, someone changes lanes, etc., all of a sudden I’m out of control or unable to maintain control. Having raced quite a few times, I think it’s BS that the car is “under control” at the limit. It has a limit and everything is trying to come apart at that speed. You can go that speed with enough flat unobstructed road, but that level of “unobstructed” doesn’t really exist on public roads.

The freeze is because I had the Catalyst set to record Bridge to Gantry lap, so it stuck at my Gantry speed, and didn't update until under the Bridge. At the same time speed updates to 162, the lap timer starts as well, and you can see the red dot on the map jump as well.

I have seen it pegged our at just about 170mph and at the end of the rev range, but in this video I still had revs left. No doubt it my mind it can reach the claimed 168mph max speed with GPS measurement.

To be honest though 80 or 160 doesn't really make a big difference anymore. Screwed either way. Might as well have some fun.

So what you're saying is if there's no speed limit then there's no problem, aka exactly what the chiron did in the video. There is no law that says you can't go 250 mph down that road, let alone 500mph. People literally change lanes 10 ft in front of you doing 20-30 mph under your speed, and deer? You're going into a ditch whether it's at 80 or 160. Actually if you hit it at 160, your car might just have enough force to splatter the deer completely and keep you going in a straight line. Laws are to make the government money, and we all know that. In the USA it started during the oil crisis because the government can't help but throw money away and couldn't afford to keep importing as much oil so they made the country go 55 mph. Montana held out as still having no speed limit until some asshat decided to challenge a 70$ speeding ticket and they realized they can't collect money unless there is an actual speed limit and there ya have it folks! Speed limits for all!

Something that hasn't been mentioned is that German drivers have excellent driving discipline. They aren't driving around on phones, crossing lanes and generally not paying attention, as is the case here in the US.

Whether you think this Bugatti is right or wrong - as framed by your own experiences - is irrelevant, as German law allows it on certain parts of the autobahn, if conditions allow.

The conditions looked good in the above video, so as others have said, no laws were broken - the German government is just pandering to a vocal group thats been trying to reduce the autobahn speed limits for years...

And this is what the speed fearing nannies can't get through their skulls. Just because it won't work where you live, doesn't mean it can't possibly work anywhere else. It's worked in Germany for the last 4 decades. Who are you to know better?

I was going to mention this. On most autobahn videos i've seen the other drivers actually use the lanes for their intended purpose. People in the UK seem to think the slow lane is for lorries (wagons) only so simply get in the way doing 10 below speed limit in the middle or fast lane. It drives me nuts.

Theoretically, if they made a no speed limit zone in the UK, it could never work due to the drastic culture difference in driving between UK and Germany.

I'd feel much safer seeing a bugatti blast past me at 250mph on autobahn than those guys that race by weaving between cars on UK motorways.

No laws were broken in this instance so who cares. Interesting debate though

You know.... in America we have that same law it's the keep right law but yet it's never enforced lol

Also check your state. Road laws like this vary by state. Most have a do not pass on the right as in when you are on the shoulder, but other than that it’s usually not consistent across all states.

It will be interesting argument in the court.
At what speed poses danger to the public at large?
There is a video of M car driven at over 300 km/hr.
So, will the police charge that man as well?
How about other drivers of Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc.?
It will open up a can of worms.

This isn't the first time a non-German has been targeted for doing a dedicated top speed run. Technically it was illegal, but rarely enforced unless one is from somewhere outside the fatherland.
