I was gonna recommend this but he said he loathes Japanese cars. I don't know why...
![]() Here are the SUVs I would get in descending order: BMW X5 Cayenne (a bit more expensive though) MDX That's pretty much it. The MDX is about the only Japanese SUV I like. The rest either look like crap or it simply is crap. If you don't want to change much the X6 is also a good option. |

Range Rover...eh. Ive spent some time behind the Sport, it's just not that great. The LR4 is great practicality/offroad wise though. Big Daddy RR doesn't have the quality to justify the price.
MB ML,current gen is boring, slow, uninspiring design. But it'll get the job done. I've had 4 haha. GL is the same but 1.5x the size. I had an R too. They're fun family/road trip cars, but crap to drive (R63 is AWESOME) G is too 90's on the inside. Porsche...useless. I personally won't ever recommend any Japanese lux car.... Then there's American...GMT900 SUV line (Yukon/Escalade/tahoe/suburban) is always a solid buy, but it's so 'merican. We have a 2011 X5d so I'm a bit biased, but get one fully loaded and it's the best feeling, best performance, and pretty reasonably priced for a lux suv. |

They just don't feel the same...their sense of quality is different than the German view. Ride, leather, steering, styling, all fall into this. Every automaker has a different view on what is "right", the key is finding who offers products that fit your style.

OP Here...
For my wife and I, it's both the vague steering feel and ugly styling that kills the Japanese cars for us. Id be all over the Yukon/Escalade/Tahoe, but I live in Manhattan, so the parking would kill me... |

If you liked your X5, just get a new one. New powertrains and styling touches really complete the car.

BMW X6 is nice too ![]() Range Rover is a POS. My sis has one, and it is always in the shop.

They say the Acura MDX actually handles like a sedan. The styling is subjective though. I'm kinda biased toward the MDX though since it's pretty much the only Japanese SUV that's good IMO.
