WTF are they on?
this number is just for the gasoline engine not for the electric engine. and apparently there is a way to enable the "evo" mode on US prius cars at which point the torque is 295 lb/ft at 400 rpm - that would make it launch faster than the 335 but won't last for long.

are you sure abt that? I see that the electric engine makes 295 lb/ft at 400 rpm and I believe there is a way to force the electric engine into action. Note, I am not a prius owner and I love my 335 but I find electric engines intriguing like the Tesla.

Priuses are clearly tortoises.

With the loaded Seaside Pearl Prius in our possession, we were anxious to try out the hybrid drivetrain in terms of both power and fuel mileage. In fact, with just over 1,000 miles on the odomoter, we ran the vehicle through our standard battery of performance tests and recorded a 10.7-second 0-to-60 time and a 17.7-second quarter-mile time at 77 mph. Not exactly hot-rod figures, but when you combine those with the 40.4-mpg average we've scored in our first 4,500 miles of driving the car, it becomes clear that the Prius offers a compelling combination of performance and fuel economy.
10.7 second 0-60? That sets them up to be one of the slowest cars on the road. Without the plug in mod I don't even see the purpose of the damn things. Hell, a 2000 Excursion will do better than that, and you had better hope you don't run into an 2003+ model (extra 50hp or so).

I think we need a thread for those guys to bitch about. I suggest,

"My 335i is getting gas mileage on par with a prius"
Quote:
Guys! I totally owned a prius today, we were both driving on the highway, pacing each other. I looked down at my MPG meter and I saw I was hitting 39mpg!!!! That prius might have been getting 35mpg at the most! (highway speeds) Hahah, I pownedz that motha!

At 0 MPH maybe. You are retarded to think that the 335 won't win at any speed.

When are they going to add a kiddie forum here so that we don't have to endure crap like this in the "real" forums? The invasion of the teeny-boppers has got to be thwarted!

As I get older and grumpier, the list gets longer. I've been on both sides of the table many times in here... and I make my share of stupid posts and take heat for it. We seem to have a lot of noobs these days who start out trying to piss people off, then cry like babies when they do.

It's like walking into a strange neighborhood bar and making cracks at the regulars... then crying when you find yourself on the sidewalk with a pool cue up your ass. Just doesn't make sense. We all tolerate a LOT from people once we get to know each other a bit.

Priceless quote from the linked thread:

"I'll run anyone of you from street light to street light barefoot. You can be on whatever tire you want, whatever battery you want, you can put a flux capacitor in that POS for all I care....who is game?"

Nearly fell over laughing from that....

Now see, these Prius stories illustrate exactly why so many "kill stories" are such BS.

I am certain there are Priuses (Prii?) out there that I didn't pass or just felt like keeping even with, when -- little did I know -- they were flooring their ecocars trying to hold me at bay. "Damn, that 330i isn't gaining on us at all!" Woo hoo! They "raced" and "beat" me!

And I can't tell you the number of times I've gone to go around some driver, and the idiot very obviously flogs the hell out of his car to try to speed up so I can't pass him. In general, my car is plenty fast to pass, so sometimes I just pass him anyway. But that's dangerous because you risk getting a much bigger speeding ticket, and it just puts you in front of some pissed off idiot. So most of the time, I'd rather let the guy be the a-hole he is and I won't bother passing. I'm sure that when that happens, somewhere, on some other Internet forum, another 330i kill story gets written.

Idiots.

Barefoot? Does that mean we'd have to cut a hole in the floor and Fred Flintstone it? I bet they could win that way.

Very nicely said. If I saw a Prius nearby revving at me I would just laugh in driver's face and let him go. Why bother?

Have we forgotten that the Prius was Larry David's choice of transportation in Curb Your Enthusiasm"? Nothing else that I know of would add to it's credibility more than that!

Actually it could be true, if the electric motor has a full charge...don't smirk it can beat ya..but once the gas engine kicks in nope....the eletric motor has no rev limiter..it's full juice...that why GM is so damn dumb..the electric car the had spanked..a few damn sport cars.

the acceleration of the Prius is similar to that of a 4 cylinder Camry.

Also, I dont get the point of this thread. To compare a 335 to a Prius is just lame. The Prius shouldnt even phase anyone.
