Actually not too fond of the interior... Seems like a lot of emptiness and I don't mean that in a nice modern home design feel.

The truth of the matter is the c63 has gotten way too expensive. Once you spec out the car to the way any reasonable person would want the car you realize how bad it has gotten in price.

That is why the c43 exists now. It's simply a less expensive variant.

For us in the know it is disturbing that the car was a c450 a year ago, but I bet if I blindfolded you to this fact and asked you to create a less expensive version of a c63 you would come up with something very similar to the c43.

Now whether amg should be going to downmarket or expanding its sales is another question all together. I'm not sure on that one

I heard the C43 AMG will have its trunk lid be a few grams lighter than the C450 AMG?

Truth be told, while I can only speak for myself but I'm sure I'm not alone, 95% of the time I'd be happier w the 43 vs the 63 even if price were not so far apart. I've driven both sedans and the 63 just seemed like overkill for my driving habits and the 450 would be my choice. Not that I'm saying I'd buy a 450 but if my choices were only those two cars I would.

Personally, if they were priced the same I would take the c63 every time.

Right now the c63 is priced too high IMO. Then again, I think the m4 and rc-f are also priced too high. Maybe it's just me.

If I lived someplace else I'd be right with you. But not when I'd have to keep it garaged a few months a year and unable to get up the hill to my house.

There is a car on the market today called the C450 AMG Sport sedan. For MY2017, this car - otherwise unchanged - will be called the Mercedes-AMG C43 sedan. This fact tells the savvy consumer 100% of what they need to know about the C43 model designation, and indeed all *43 models in Mercedes' new lineup.
BMW is just the same. Why were m135i and m235i introduced. Are those drivetrain so unique? No. Also they rebadged 335i to 340i to steer water towards them and away from MB c400. Is all marketing.

Benz is trying to muddle it's AMG models and it's standard cars.

BMW hasn't done that yet. You will recognize a true M from a higher spec M-Sports car.

Until BMW does what Benz is starting to do they aren't the same. The new M240i might come close to a M2 but it isn't a true M.

AMG has always confused people with it's pseudo AMG packaged cars and it's true AMG cars like the C63. Even then you can easily get a standard C and a AMG C63 confused as they literally LOOK the same aside from the front lip and rear diffuser + quad exhaust.

You generally won't get a M2 and M235i (M240i) confused. Nor would you generally confuse a M3/M4 to it's 3er/4er. The pseudo M might come close to a real M in terms of performance but they aren't a full M car and BMW so far has not got them mixed together.

If others are getting them mixed up already when it comes to BMW Ms or cannot tell the difference that is on you. I don't get a X5M/X6M confused with a "Diesel" and I already don't agree with how BMW labels it's SUV cars.

What are you talking about? If YOU are able to distinguish true M from phony M that does not mean all people do. Even insurance adjusters think my lowered M-Tech 335i with oversized wheels is an M3. What do you thinks happens when a laymen look at my car. You analogy is rather silly! If I slap M3 badge on it only the true enthusiast will be able to tell the difference. Get over yourself...BMW has been diluting the M for decades now. M-tech, M-sport, M-performance, little M stickers everywhere...

I don't know where to begin with this post.

The one thing Mercedes has leaned from BMW is how to water down their performance brands. There's so many M badges across most or all of the BMWs. Get the M-Sport package added to a car and start counting the Ms.

That made me want some M&Ms.

What...a standard C class? You are trying to tell everyone you can spot the difference of a psuedo M-car and a M-car. But you can't tell the difference from a standard C-class and the 63 AMG. Even 43 coupe and 63 coupe look substantially different. Any car enthusiast can see it right away. All the metal is different, only thing carried over is doors and roof. The 63 coupe is a true widebody, like the M2.

You could argue the C43 coupe and C63 coupe have more differences than a M2 and M235i. At least the 63 coupe has two more cylinders and the two cars sound nothing alike. I guess you could mistake them, if you were a not a car enthusiast. But then again my non-car friends couldn't tell you the difference from a 228i M-sport and a M2.

Well ya a C43 and C63 are different, comparing them side by side but I mean everyone now a days when they buy cars they tend to go for the performance models even if it wasn't a full fledged M/AMG/S etc. So at the end of the day it doesn't matter too much. Long as you can tell the difference that is all that matters.

Marketing is marketing. If the C63s came out the same year as the F80, I would have been pressured into getting the C63S over my M4. Oddly I specced a C63S at a lesser price than my M4. Weird.

Why is it weird that the C63S is cheaper than the M4? It's slower, available in fewer trims and made in greater numbers and a direct competitor. Sort of makes a certain amount of sense.

In what world is a similarly specd C63s cheaper than an M4? The sedan costs about $10k more than the M3 sedan with similar options. Unless you're speaking about an M4 GTS you're kidding yourself because that's the only M4 that currently costs more than a C63s.

I think some people (not you) may forget there are two C63 models at different price points. The C63 coupe is $62,200 and the C63S coupe is $72,800.

The M4 coupe starts at $65,700.

I am pretty good at spotting cars, I can tell the difference between a C6 and a C6Z from the rear alone. But I can almost never tell if a 435i Msport is an M4 or not when they are coming up from behind me.

i spoke with a mercedes engineer and he was pretty spot on. this gives all the real AMG goodies somebody like us forum members would want and drool over, without the engine, that is less efficient, more expensive, and quite simply way overkill for what anyone really needs it for.
