Full leather is on the way and I can’t wait to check this out:

Making its debut in the new 2025 BMW M5 is the BMW Individual Full Merino Metallic leather trim, which will be available from spring 2025 in Black/Dark Violet bi-color and Taupe Grey/Deep Lagoon Pearl Effect bi-color. The unique finish creates a particularly striking effect for the head and shoulder areas of the M Multifunction Seats and imparts an exclusive and technical aura to the interior with surfaces that vary their appearance according to the prevalence of light. This is made possible by a refinement process called High Definition Design (HDD), and BMW is the first carmaker to use this process in one of its products. HDD creates a unique, three-dimensional ornamentation in the leather, featuring exceptionally clear contours and seamless transitions between areas higher up in the interior and those lower down.

Wait, what? Hankook tires...??? These are OE? I guess I've turned into a tire snob, but once I couldn't source Michelin PSS (the current version at the time) and used Hankooks for my E39 M5. Not bad for the price, but I noticed a difference and switched back to PSS as soon as I could. This is a $120K car after all...

Any concerns on weight or it’s a DD for you?

I guess I’ll see once I take possession……but I’ve got some other cars, including my G83, so I’m not too worried!

F90 was the last M5.

2.5 tonne hybrid with a lower power/weight ratio than the last car?

Keep it.

Maybe pss' can't handle the weight? I was fully expecting this to use PS5S as oem

heard that they're not making a competition package, think they're saying this to avoid impacting standard M5 sales or think they'll copy the garbage XM and make a red label?

Really was looking forward to it. But now way happier with sticking with my old ass f90 now. In line for the wagon, but at this point, won’t be worth it.

The EU is forcing EV down our throats and you guys are complaining about BMW? The writing was on the wall - if you expected a light, agile, gas powered M5, you live under a rock. Do you really believe Mercedes wanted to murder their beloved C63 like that? Do you think BMW developed the XM drivetrain because they thought it was good? BMW has no choice. Either they pump out fat pigs or EU sues them into bankruptcy.

What about a full EV M5? Enthusiasts would still complain and the market has proven EV will not sell.

If you were smart, you would have seen this coming and bought a manual transmission ICE engine. Conveniently, BMW still sells those.

I like the interior a lot… sides and rear are nice, hood is good, but the grill.. not my favorite. Everyone said the same about the M3/4 front end and now people love it. Everyone said they hated my XM Label and I get more compliments than I did on my frozen M8, or F90 I had. I do like this car and love the power. 0-60 could have been 2.5-2.7 if they kept it same weight as the F90.

Not sure what bothers me more, his sweater or the hankook tires. It’s the middle of summer, and where are the Michelins?

But seriously, this guy and the 911 product head seem overwhelmed and exhausted. Perhaps they’re beat down by the constant pressure to squeeze all these requirements into their cars. Literally no one asked for a digital tachometer and push button start in the 992. And no M driver asked for a heavier, slower M5.

By the way, is anyone going to do EV mode? 200 hp in a 5300 lb tank should be a great use of your in-warranty mileage. No, it is legislation and taxes driving these irrational, complex, and heavy PHEVs, not true practicality or smart use of resources or customer demand.

If the XM has failed, why will this M5 succeed? The XM flew off pike’s peak and wrapped around a tree due to its mass. So you’re saying this M5 will overcome physics and set a new benchmark for driving dynamics? Absolutely not.

The ugly tooth fang 7seven series is what has those items.
The M5 has always been a luxury car - the ultimate 5. Many of those options are just not available on a 5 anymore, which cheapens it.

Full leather and soft close doors made it stand out and helped justify its price. More and more the only thing distinctive about a 5 is the styling, and even that is getting less special.

Watts are watts and speakers are speakers, always have been. The digital tech in the signal chain can change all you want, but it still gets converted to an analog signal and run through an amplifier to drive speakers. Don’t let marketing magic fool you.

Also the GTS battery is nill as its only 1.9kwh and I don't think it provides any EV range purely for power dumping.

M5 is 14.8kw and has EV range. Different intended audience and platform makeup.

The 911 platform doesn't have the space for a large pack and EV range. Thus a different approach and other tech applications and a larger price increase resulted.

Again 911s will always sell even with the 16k 24 vs 25 gts price increase

I think the 911 hybrid approach should be what bmw mirrors for the next gen m3
Porsche is actually innovating. This BMW drivetrain is nothing new, not impressive, and adds considerable mass. “EV Range” is something few M5 owners were looking for.

I'm in a loaner currently (flat tire due to screw in it), and it has the same system, there's no buttons anymore to control music on the steering wheel, you have to use the scroll wheel. Extremely annoying. The shifter is just basically a clít that u flick, no actual shifter. You cant feel for buttons in the dark, without looking. You have to look, and try to aim to the touch screen, for everything, since the knob in the center console to control the screen is gone. Changing temperature, etc, is a major pain now. The bluetooth is problematic, and won't connect to recent calls or anything half the time for telephone. Everything that was nice and simple, and aided usability and functionality, is gone, and/or problematic now. The exterior isn't bad, but it doesn't stand out much at all from a 5 series, and the front end is unnecessarily long on the bottom half, and sticks out oddly. The grill is very long and basically touches the headlights, but its unproportional and should be taller, if its going to be so wide. And I'm not a fan of the taillights either, it gives mercedes vibes. I am so happy I got my G82 when I did, and despite my few criticisms of it, it is FAR superior to the design of this. It's very sad to see what they've done.
Dude. Same. Had an m340i for a few days with the new system.

Less buttons. More annoyance. Kept trying to shift from the center to no avail.

I’m pretty disappointed in the commonly mentioned gripes about body styling and weight, but even the driving experience will seemingly be way more neutered.

Just think about weight and price of adding seat massage / soft close door or adding $3500 for full leather or $3500 sound system, etc...
Fender grill means extra fender work which is increasing the fender machine work for something with no value other than cosmetic.
You’re making his point. Customers expect certain things of a 5 and they’re no longer available… the car is seriously decontented and cheap feeling yet is still overweight.

Makes no sense.
