Let me contribute to this amazing thread with more fuel for discussion: MICROPLASTICS

It turns that the biggest source of microplastics in the environment is car tires. This stuff goes into our blood stream and ends up in all kinds of places like brain, liver, pancreas, and causes hormonal and other issues.

Now, cars getting heavier (thanks to electrification), we are shedding a lot more microplastics to the environment. Think about how fast your Tesla goes through tires; this stuff ends up in our organs and bloodstream.

So, one of the biggest arguments against electrification, which results in heavier cars and rapid tire consumption, is MICROPLASTICS.

Do you want more microplastics in your brain? Didn't think so! So, lets all go back to lighter, ICE cars with manual transmissions

Hi and welcome .
Never really thought that much about microplastics and the health implications from tires that shed faster from the heavier EV's, glad you brought it up in the thread where more can be discussed about it.

Red Herring.

This is miss-leading as weight is not the only factor in tire wear. It's completely overlooking the instant torque and rapid acceleration that EV's have compared to equivalent ICE vehicles.

In my anecdotal experience, the higher tire wear is absolutely due to the instant and high torque, not weight. I have three cars, an ICE SUV, ICE convertible, and an EV CUV. The ICE SUV weighs the most out of all three yet has the best tire wear. My convertible is my fun car and I drive the pants off it, tire wear is fast. Our EV has 446 lbft of torque and I use it all often, tire wear is fast.

Also doesn't take into consideration that the stock EV tires are absolute garbage and can't handle the torque that these cars put out. I very often get our EV to slide around, even in dry weather. That's going to increase tire wear drastically.

IMO, this thread is the wrong demographic to complain about tire wear. I think the vast majority of us would chose quicker tire wear and more power...

Excuses, excuses...
Don't forget to bring up:
  • Putting organized labor slobs out of their jobs because EVs are simpler and quicker to build.
  • Same lame argument for oil drillers and coal miners.
  • EVs spontaneously combust all the time (false, but give that one a try).
  • The culture wars argument - one must hate EVs since they are mostly driven by "coastal elites"...
  • ...

Getrag factory in China only uses manual labor.

I do my homework too. Looking at you Lotus. Not for working conditions, obviously, but cCp tentacles.

What I gathered from the article is Brazil is the larger culprit. China is "claiming" to be offering solutions to stop the abuse.
Salt grain>>>here.

Good on you! More people should follow in your footsteps.

I left a negative Yelp review for my local PF Chang's, even though I don't eat there. Screw them.
