It’s speculation, but that’s the rumor currently in motion. The main one being rumored is a manual Turbo (…which Porsche said couldn’t be done, but then released the Sport Classic), so that would be cool to place that in the line-up without a $400k price tag. The S will be a hybrid/PDK-only by most reports since the Ascari reveal.

Is it me, but when tested new i5, it felt and looked smaller than previous generations? Somehow squished from the sides looking at general proportions. In reality new one is taller, wider than G30 or F10.

And G90 case, this thing looks huge with that wide stance. Touring would look even bigger.

Exactly. The F90 was the last of the good M5's. The new one is a heavy big & a bit on the rubbish side, in terms of overall agility & absolute performance...

I think what throws off the G90 front end is the lower half "skirt". In piano black, it looks wrong in some way, perhaps because cars with a semi-aggressive front end skirt like that usually aren't in piano black.

But, I can see if you replace it with the carbon fiber, it'll look very right indeed.

Overall, the G60 generation of 5-series is closer to 7 than to 3, meaning they're luxury sedans that are sporty instead of sports sedans that are luxury. The G90, being the same weight as a X7 full sized SUV, sounds like it'll be the same philosophy, just taken up a notch or two.

TL;DR: Opinions BMW styling fall on somewhat predictable lines. I know the owners of the G90 will love their cars.

With due respect to your experience, mine has been quite different.

All of the following were custom build to order vehicles.

1. E90 first BMW, I liked it so I got it. New to the brand

2. Wasn’t thrilled by F30 radical headlight design meeting grilles, otherwise a well put together German 4 door sedan. I guess I also found it better packaged overall and got one.

To date G20 rear tail lights is lazy design to me, bland to say the least, front was great. LCI did not fix that. Interior was modern though not to my liking of design and cheapened materials. By this time of launch of G20, I had already gotten into an F10, so my opinion wasn’t really biased by ownership or desire to own one of G20s.

4 series evolved so well from driving dynamics perspective moving into G2x generation but the design is completely out of place, I think it sells because once you are driving it, it’s a much superior car than the F3x. Same for M variants.

3. F10 was great highway cruiser with comfort and big sports car sorts drive. Had one for 3.5 years.

4. G30 was a rather bland evolution and looked too similar to F10 but felt lighter and more comfortable on highway long drives. (4.5 hour non stop was not exhausting). Design a tad better on exterior, and some tech goodies. Driving this currently.

5. G60 doesn’t have the German saloon design language anymore. F10 and G30 did, so did E60 though it was polarizing.

A dusty old F10,E60 is still a head turner and stands out on the highway, there IS that uniqueness about their design

G60 feels way larger sitting inside, and when parking. Drives well surprisingly not feeling that big on handling (had a brand new loaner when my G30 was in for warranty services/repairs).

G60 only draws my attention when it’s a brand spanking new shiny one, or it’s lost in the midst of the Hondas and Toyotas and the kias. It does not stand out unless it’s pimped up or some striking color.

Weird to some but some would agree about design - a car has to speak to me for me to be passionate about it’s design language, which sadly won’t be possible to meet as a mark the way auto industry is going.


I don’t like G60 or this general 5er generation personally, it’s a very confused design. It’s a significant departure lately from the design direction and there is honestly no question about it. Whether we/potential customers like it or not or need to go to therapy so the designs grow on them is a different story

It will sell because you can’t buy a brand new factory ordered older gen car anymore for practical and emmisions/ regulatory reasons.
