I kinda like the way it looks. I like the aggressive, over-styled rear and the bolstered front end. And I like it with the larger, darker wheels. I like that it's not simply an evolution of the F90. It will look better in person.

And since I don't think an M5 is supposed to be lithe and agile, I don't mind the hefty weight or the complex powertrain. M5s are not built to be athletic, instead they're more fast cruise missiles. And it will be faster than BMW is claiming.

So for an executive transport, I think this fits the bill. With this powertrain, not many are going to own this car outside of a lease, so until the M5 goes full EV, this is a decent 3-year lease stopgap until the M5 goes full EV....which will likely be at the end of this generation. Expect a 900-hp EV M5 soon, and of course then everyone will bemoan the loss of the V8.

Time waits for no one, and BMW is not going backward. Don't worry, they'll soon be piping that V8 soundtrack into its EV models soon enough.

I suppose we’re suggesting that some of the designers BMW are now employing do not align with a large part of their base demographic.

My subsequent comment regarding DEI initiatives is self explanatory and that’s what I believe to be true. If you support it and think it’s a good business practice then I respect your belief as well.

They are sandbagging 0-60 times as usual. When tested numbers come out my guess is everyone will be surprised. Hell my XM label does 0-60 in 3.2-3.3s and it weighs way more! I like this G90.

Welp, I believe the Remove Before Race guy & Joe Achilles (who regularly get to drive every performance car known to man) when they say the straight line acceleration “wasn’t that impressive”.

And with the current crop of EVs 0-60 times really aren’t that impressive anymore. To real enthusiasts it’s the 0-120 that matters. I suspect even the XM falls flat in that arena.

Actually the straight line performance was pretty good. Lots of grip, lots of torque. Considering how heavy it is, it's pretty good. To me, it was the cornering and braking that was problematic: that's when you really feel the weight.

I still think this car should not be reviewed on a track. It's really not a track car. They made it a bit softer also so people like it as a daily driver and it's more of a luxury (M7-like) sedan than the old school M5s.

I personally look forward to drive on the street this fall and see what it means to live with the car.

Was PHEV the best choice? Unlikely, but who knows why and how these decisions are made. My guess? 8-9 years ago when planning started for this car, PHEVs were "the thing" and M was not ready for a full EV M5 in 2024. And I'm glad they didn't go EV now, the range would have not been great, charging also and even heavier.
